There’s a new Instagram feature in town, and while it’s not a major release, it does help brands and creators promote upcoming events or launches.

By creating an Instagram feed post with the “Add Reminder” feature, your followers can tap on a small bell icon to see event details along with an option to receive notification reminders:

You can also share feed posts with the reminder tag to your Instagram Stories – driving even more awareness and hype:

It's perfect for promoting an event, product drop, Instagram Live round-table, or even a new podcast episode. The options are limitless.

How to Add a Reminder to an Instagram Feed Post

Adding a reminder to your feed post is fairly similar to tagging a product, or another Instagram user.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Create a new Instagram feed post, as usual.

  2. On the New Post page, select Add Reminder.

  3. Include all relevant event information, like your Event Title and start time. Then, hit Done.

NOTE: Reminders must be set at least one hour in advance of the event’s start time, with a maximum countdown of three months. It will also be set in the timezone of the device you used to create the post, but your followers will see it in their local time!

When someone opts-in to receive a reminder for your event, they’ll get sent:

  • An activity feed notification 24 hours before the event

  • An activity feed and push notification 15 minutes before the event

  • An activity feed and push notification when the event is starting

At the moment, you can’t add reminder tags to posts that have already been published (we tried, to no avail).

It's also unclear when the feature will be rolled out across all markets, so stay tuned.
