So, how often should you post to Instagram every week? Well, it's not a black-and-white answer because it actually depends on your goals.

How often do most accounts post per week?

On average:

  • Accounts with up to 10,000 followers post around 2.5 times per week;

  •  Accounts with anywhere over 10,000 to 10,0000 followers post a little bit over 3 times per week; and

  • Accounts with over 100,000 to 500,000 followers typically post around 5 times per week.

Now, these are just weekly averages that are working for a variety of different accounts, but it's interesting to note that overall feed posting isn't quite as high as you might expect. One factor is likely because creators and brands are taking to their Instagram Stories a lot more frequently to connect with their audiences rather than posting on their feeds.

How often should you post on Instagram per week?

So back to everyone's burning question: how often should I post on Instagram every week? And the answer is, how often can you be consistent with posting every week?

And before you roll your eyes, we know the word consistency is thrown a lot when it comes to Instagram advice. But what most people fail to elaborate on is that your audience wants predictability from you, and consistency is how you're going to deliver that. They want to know what to expect and when they can expect it. And this boils down to having clear content themes and consistent ways of delivering that content.

So ask yourself, how often can I post Instagram weekly? And what is a sustainable number that pushes me, but isn't overwhelming to the point of being burnt out two weeks later into it? It's important to be realistic with yourself and know that a lot of times, the brands and creators that are posting every single day, or even multiple times a day, have full-time dedication on their social media channels.

For example, at Later, we post 10 to 12 times a week to just our Instagram feed but we also have a dedicated social media team. So if you're a team of one, take a deep breath and focus on setting a realistic posting schedule that you can stick with. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's focus on a few tips to help you with your own Instagram posting schedule.

Posting Tip #1: Post with purpose

Don’t post just to post something on your feed. Your stories can be for that type of content, but you should always maintain quality over quantity when it comes to your feed posts. You'll make the best use of your time by putting your best content forward and it's better to recycle a past post that performed well for you, rather than posting something that doesn't provide any value or is just something that you're going to want to delete later.

Posting Tip #2: Focus on variety

Instead of obsessing over how frequently you post, make sure you're putting out different types of content. Some content like Reels, for example, are great for attracting a higher reach to help you find new audiences. Other content, like a niche meme or hopping on your stories for an unfiltered behind-the-scenes, can be great for building an engaged community.

You'll want to focus on content that does a little bit of everything because if you're just focused on posting to attract new followers, your current ones are likely going to start leaving quickly and vice versa.

Posting Tip #3: Put energy where you get results

In 2023, Reels still reign supreme when it comes to attracting new followers and increasing your engagement rate. We promise it's worth your time to create a Reels strategy and find some ways to consistently create video content for your account.
